URETEROSCOPY IN 104 PATIENTS
author
Abstract:
From July, 1987 to Oct, 1989 , 104 patients underwent 111 transurethral ureteroscopy procedures at the Air Force Medical Center. All intramural ureters were dilated by flexible metal dilators. The overall success rate for ureteral stone removal was 95.8 per cent. Ureteroscopy was done for evaluation of gross hematuria, strictures, ureteral stent, and ureteral and pyelocalyceal tumors. The overall mean hospital stay was 2.5 days with no important complications.

Ureteroscopy (URS) is a procedure which has been constantly evolving since the development of first generation devices 40 years ago. Progress towards smaller and more sophisticated equipment has been particularly rapid in the last decade. We review the significant steps that have been made toward improving outcomes and limiting morbidity with this procedure which is central to the management of...

Background: For the narrow ureter that will not accommodate a ureteroscope, it is common practice to place a ureteral stent, to allow subsequent ureteroscopy in the passively dilated ureter. Surprisingly, there are limited data on the effectiveness or safety of these maneuvers. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed patients managed with ureteral stent placement followed by another attempt at ure...
